No. 12560: EFFA® Mark II Carbon Coater
The EFFA® Mark II Carbon Coater coats a specimen by evaporating strands
of carbon fabric in a partial vacuum. The use of a 150-200um vacuum creates
a diffused, shadowless coating, eliminating the need for rotary-tilting
shadowers. Cycle time is two minutes or less, depending on pump capacity.
Film thickness can be controlled by the number of carbon strands or by
substituting optional coating chambers. The carbon strands are supplied
as squares of carbon cloth, each containing about 150 strands. The number
of strands required are unraveled from one edge of the square and clamped
between the posts. The chamber is pumped down and the power turned up until
the strands "burn out". Each strand contains about 100 10um carbon fibers,
which outgas quickly as the system is pumped. There are no voids or sparking,
as with carbon rods. Price does not include vacuum pump.

Additional Features
No. 18906: Pin-Type Mount Holder - Discontinued
No. 12561: Replacement Carbon Fabric - Ted Pella, Inc. Order Code #99-12561
Effective March 2005, fabric strands are about twice as wide as the old ones. The old style fabric is no longer available. Those previously using two strands of fabric would now use only one. Those using a single strand could increase the sample distance, or split a strand lengthwise. Two squares approximately 3" x 3".

No. 18930: EffaCoater - Ted Pella, Inc. Alternative: Cressington 108 Manual Sputter Coater
The EffaCoater is a compact, low-cost sputter coater intended for coating
non-conductive specimens for SEM analysis. Fully integrated solid state
timer enhances reliability and simplifies service. A full one year guarantee
for parts and labor is furnished.
Samples can be coated in less than 30 seconds with a high-rate target. Magnetic field deflection prevents specimen heat damage. Semi-automatic, repeatable coating is possible after parameters are set. Inert gas bleed fittings are included.
Long-lasting conventional targets are available for use with non-heat sensitive samples. Conventional targets do not have magnetic field deflection.
Price does not include target or vacuum pump.
